momstown Victoria Fisher-Price Toy Review: Stand-Up Ballcano!

One of the really fun perks to being a momstown mama is that once in a while we get to test and review one of the amazing new Fisher-Price toys, which we also get to keep! Last time it was the Imaginext DC Super Friends Batcave, which was more suitable for my 5 and 2-year old. (My 10-month enjoyed it too, but mostly she just hid Batman in the pots and pans drawer.) So it is great that the toy I get to review this month is the Fisher-Price Stand-Up Ballcano, which is much more suited to her toddler age. At 15 months, Eloise is not as easily distracted by TV, toys or colouring books. Would it keep her busy for at least 15 minutes, which would be long enough to check my facebook page or unload the dishwasher? We would see!

All three of my kids were instantly drawn to the large, brightly-coloured toy. They immediately started dropping balls onto the top "drum," rolling the cylinder and watching the balls tumble down the different legs. The toy is designed for ages 6 to 36 months, so naturally my 6-year lost interest after a few minutes. My 3-year old stayed longer, but then wandered off to find his brother. My 1-year old, however, continued to pick up and drop balls onto the top drum. She loved causing the flashing lights and musical sounds, repeating the action and getting slightly different results. She kept waving her arms in excitement when she caused the lights and music. I think she was saying, "Eureka! I've figured out the algorithm!" That's my girl.

I was impressed by how the lights and sounds encouraged her to repeat her actions over and over. The toy could definitely be said to help develop a child's physical development and curiosity, and saying things like, "Where's the purple ball? How many balls can we fit on top?" is a great way to engage and teach toddlers while playing with this toy. I also like that more than one kid can play around it without conflict. I would say this is one of the best designed toddler toys I've seen in action.

momstown Victoria Picassos in the Park with Tropicana - 'the good stuff!'

We had a wonderful time serving delicious Tropicana orange juice at our momstown Victoria Picassos in the Park event this month! momstown.ca is proud to team up with Tropicana to raise awareness of their Tree of Giving campaign, which aims to donate 300,000 servings of orange juice to Breakfast for Learning programs in schools across the country.
 

The sun was hot, and our momstown Victoria moms and kids were thirsty! As one mom told her child, we were serving 'the good stuff'!' The children loved our craft, which was an orange tree made with toilet paper rolls and tissue paper, and we also gave away orange balloons!

  

31% of elementary students do not have breakfast before going to school, and when you pick an orange from the Tropicana Tree of Giving website, you donate a serving of orange juice to the Breakfast for Learning programs, and get a chance to win a year's supply of orange juice. You can pick up to one orange each day.

To the Batcave! Imaginext DC Super Friends momstown Victoria Toy Review

In the interest of complete disclosure, I should tell you that my family and I are already big fans of the Fisher-Price Imaginext toy line. It started when my son was 3 and wanted the Imaginext Firehouse for Christmas. We've since collected several different sets, and it's the toy that we keep in the living room and gets the most play with our kids and when we have playdates.

Top reasons we love it already: great quality, suitable for a wide age range (if you remove small pieces for under 3) and there are just enough pieces in a set to make it interesting yet easy to tidy. After 3 years of collecting Imaginext, the kids keep playing with older ones as much as new ones, the sets all work together (we've had epic pirate vs. fireman vs. dinosaurs vs. ocean explorer battles), and there are short video episodes online and on youtube that the kids love to watch. Talk about great value!

So we were more than a little excited when we were chosen by momstown to review the Fisher-Price Imaginext DC Super Friends Batcave, which we did not already have! I kept it a secret from the boys, who are 2 and just-turned-6, until right before we brought it out. Needless to say, all three kids, including my 11-month old girl, were enthralled. My husband was impressed too as soon he opened the box. The toy is designed to be removed quickly and easily, and with the removal of one or two small pieces so that the baby could play too, the set was all ready to go. 

The toy has so many cool, well thought out features, all three kids were able to enjoy different parts of it at the same time. And they kept playing together with the one set! I had the other Imaginext toys on standby, ready to join in if needed, but they were happy to play with just the Batcave. We gave the toy to them after dinner, at around 6:30 pm, and the boys stayed up until 8 pm playing with it, an hour past bedtime. Next morning, they were back at it, and they are still holding on to their Batman and Robin several days later!
